I must confess, I’ve been secretly lurking around Bowerbird Knits and admiring her stranded work. Recently, she posted a pattern called Mittens for Alex. As my name is not Alex, it seemed I would have to knit my own pair of mittens.

Mittens for ME!

Pattern: Mittens for Alex at Bowerbird Knits
Yarn: Cascade Eco Wool (478 yds/250g Heavy Worsted)
Needles: Size 3 DPNs

These follow the basic shaping as Charlene Schurch’s Mostly Mittens or Knitting Marvelous Mittens, depending on your edition (they are the same book). I love the shape of these mittens, and the patterns in the book. I managed to get a copy recently well below the current going rate and I look forward to stepping up and entering the world of strands.

Other Cool Things To Share:

Another blog I’ve been lurking around is All Buttoned Up! The brave soul that’s begun the Walker Treasury Project. If you’ve read her recent post then you know she’s found a solution to one of my biggest problems: Keeping Your Knitting Books Open To Read From While Using Your Hands To Knit. One of my favorites is Montse Stanley’s Knitter’s Handbook, somewhat clumsy to use while your hands are occupied with something like, oh for example, knitting.

Book Spine

My local Office Max was able to do this for me. It cost $3.69. It is the best thing in the history of things that can occur to large paperback books. (We can’t break the spine, oh no my precious. That’s book murder.) Up next will most likely be my 4 BW treasuries and Color In Spinning. As my husband said, “It should have just come that way”. Hear that, publishing houses of random denominations? They should come prespiralbound for us knitters who would otherwise have hands occupied while reading your tomes.
